When you bring home a new furry friend, the 3-3-3 rule is your most important guide. It describes the three phases a cat needs to truly settle into their new home. Since stress is one of the main reasons why a cat might not eat, this rule helps you to better assess their behaviour.
- The first 3 days (Arrival): In this phase, everything is new and frightening. The cat often feels overwhelmed and hides. It is completely normal if the cat does not eat at first or does not yet use the litter tray perfectly. Above all, they now need peace and quiet, and a protected place to retreat to.
- The first 3 weeks (Settling in): Your cat begins to understand your routines. They notice when food is served and who the "tin openers" are.
